What Is It?

The Alexander Technique arose out of the observation that when the back works well we function much better.  This results in - clear thinking, good breathing, good voice quality, rapid and thoughtful reactions to difficult situations, and a physical ease and absence of injury in back, limbs, head and neck.

As we struggle to keep pace with modern life, we often pull ourselves out of shape, causing tension and pain. When we get older, we lose the alertness and poise that allowed us as children to move without strain. We begin to develop habits that interfere with our natural co-ordination and functioning and are harmful to our well-being.

The Alexander Technique allows the "good use" of childhood to re-establish itself. It is a means of rediscovering a more natural way of moving by reducing effort and increasing awareness. The Alexander Technique can help to alleviate and prevent conditions associated with poor posture and muscular tension such as joint and muscle problems, breathing and digestive disorders and stress-related conditions. It can also help with pain management or rehabilitation after surgery or illness. The Alexander Technique can enhance performance, for artists, musicians or athletes of any standard.

The Alexander Technique offers a method for life-long learning. It provides you with a set of skills to use in everyday activity. You can learn how to help yourself and to develop self-awareness and self-reliance, which will improve the quality of your life.
